I'm Zee Marquez — a renewable energy specialist who combines
deep technical expertise in asset engineering with project finance and data science.
I also like to build cool stuff and learn new things!
As a mechanical engineer, I've spent my eraly career years on the asset side of solar and wind projects — structural analysis,
performance optimisation, CAPEX and OPEX reduction — and I've consistently used
software, data pipelines, and AI to deliver results that would otherwise require teams
ten times the size. At GRI I helped reduce wind tower manufacturing costs through FEM-based parametric optimisation.
At Vulkano I built an end-to-end IoT and ML platform for solar PV asset monitoring that gives asset managers real-time visibility
into degradation and maintenance costs — the kind of data that sits at the heart of any
credible project finance model. I've also worked directly with developers and investors
on structural due diligence for solar tracker portfolios.
Alongside that, I build software and AI products — from knowledge management tools
to open-source document editors — because engineering complex systems, whether physical
or digital, is the same discipline applied to different materials.
Experience
Technical Manager — Vulkano Engineering · Madrid · Nov 2023 – Present
- Structural and performance analysis of solar PV assets for energy developers and asset managers — detailed structural, frequency, and wind load analysis of tracker portfolios to assess design integrity and long-term reliability.
- Led development of STOWAI: an IoT-based monitoring platform for utility-scale solar plants that quantifies mechanical degradation, predicts maintenance events, and optimises OPEX — directly informing asset valuation and financing assumptions. Delivered from hardware concept to cloud in under 4 months.
- Forged strategic partnerships with leading Spanish solar developers; secured funding and recognition from Actua UPM, CAM, Wayra, and La Caixa.
- Registered utility model ES1315071U for a self-powered mechanical monitoring and predictive maintenance device.
Structural Engineer — GRI · Gestamp Renewable Industries · Madrid · Jan 2023 – Oct 2023
- Reduced wind tower manufacturing material costs by 10% through topology optimisation algorithms embedded in FEM-based parametric tools — translating engineering efficiency directly into CAPEX reduction.
- Migrated legacy FEM/CFD workflows to open-source alternatives, eliminating significant software licensing costs and improving automation across the structural analysis pipeline.
- Applied targeted FEM simulations to resolve critical manufacturing discrepancies, preventing production delays and protecting project timelines.
Software & Control Engineering Intern — +D (masdediagram) · Madrid · Jun 2019 – Jan 2021
- Programmed PLCs and developed software for crash testing and certification machines.
- Designed and assembled industrial automation control systems.
Education
Project Finance and M&A Master — ISBIF · 2026
Project finance structuring, infrastructure debt and equity, LBO mechanics, and M&A
deal execution — with a focus on energy transition and infrastructure assets. A natural
complement to years of technical work on the asset side of renewable energy projects.
BSc Mechanical Engineering (English) — Universidad Carlos III de Madrid · 2018 – 2022
- Exchange semesters at Case Western Reserve University and California State University Long Beach (USA) — 4.0 GPA.
- Honors in Physics and Python programming.
- University Moto-Student Team: designed sensorisation and data acquisition systems for racing motorcycles.
